Bonding or composite resin restorations are an affordable and conservative way to correct many dental imperfections. Because of advances in technology, the bonding material can now be successfully placed within any region of the mouth, including posterior teeth. Many of our patients prefer tooth-colored fillings over the silver or amalgam restorations, owing to better aesthetics.
The procedure is affordable and can be utilized to immediately reclaim ones appearance in an emergency situation. The bonding material is also used for post and core fillings as a foundation for root canal treated dentition in preparation for a crown or bridge placement.
Because the porous nature of the material may create opportunity for staining and discoloration, patients are advised to abstain from smoking and drinking tea, coffee or wine. Bonding fillings are also prone to fractures and may require replacement, depending upon the area of the mouth and surface of the teeth involved.
